Unless you have been living under a rock you would know about Bridal Episode Venue Showcase. But whether it’s a local or destination wedding, here are some questions that you have to get complete clarity on before you go ahead and ink and the deal or make the down payment. Most of us narrow it down only to the place and the budget, but there are a lot of other things you need to sort out before booking it, so that you’re not left with a huge extra bill or key elements missing on the big day!
Question 1: How many total guests can be accommodated in a floating/ seating capacity?
If you are having a sangeet, where most people come at a particular time and sit to watch the performances, you need to look at seating capacity. Opposed to this a wedding reception where people come, greet the couple and leave you can look at a floating capacity. You can find floating and seating capacities on our venue showcase here.
Question 2: How many other events do you have lined up on the same day?
In case the venue is not exclusive and has more than one garden/hall, there might be other functions on the same day as well. In that case, you will have to judge how big the event is, and whether there will be enough parking space available to accommodate everyone from both the parties.
Question 3: Are fire ceremonies allowed inside the venue?
If you are having a traditional wedding, some venues do not permit ceremonies with fire pits in them. So you may have to shift your ceremony elsewhere.
Question 4: What is the complete breakdown of the services included? (Parking, room service etc.)
Again, make a note of these things… on the D-day you might be too preoccupied to remember it while making the payments.
Question 5: Are the costs for weekdays and weekends as well as day and night any different?
Just for reference, in case you’re looking to tweak costs somewhere in your budget.
Question 6: Are there any hidden costs like corkage?
There are sometimes hidden costs involved, like ‘corkage’ wherein the venue charges extra for serving alcohol that you bring from outside.
Question 7: Are there any noise restrictions? Can a DJ or live band be accommodated?
Better to find out before than struggle later.
Question 8: What is the deposit required and what’s the cancellation policy?
Just in case something happens, it’s better to know the cancellation policy beforehand. Also, very important to find out the deposit, whether it is refundable and how the rest of the payment has to be made- all at once or in installments. Enquire about the mode of payment you’re comfortable with as well.
Question 9: Is the venue insured in case of an eventuality? Are all permits in place?
Check on their permits like fire, music etc. Insurance is very important for weddings so that any sort of mishap is prevented.
Question 10: Can we get our own vendors from outside or is it necessary to employ someone from your preferred list?
Again, they might insist on roping in their own services or vendors. You can choose to do so or talk them into bringing in your own. But it’s always better to get a list of their vendor’s prices so that you have a point of comparison.
Question 11: Does the place have a proper liquor license? Can we bring our own booze or do we have to buy it from you?
Liquor license is a must if you intend to serve alcohol. Also, if they allow you to BYOB, then it can really save you a lot of money, in case you’re looking for a budget wedding. If you can’t, clarify on what brand of alcohol they’ll be serving. Whiskey is both cheap and expensive.
Question 12: What is the backup plan in case of rain (if is an outdoor venue)?
Seriously, you’ve got to be prepared in India no matter what the season is!
